Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) is a whole-home ventilation system that permanently cures condensation and black mould. A unit installed in your loft space continuously supplies fresh, filtered air into the home, gently displacing stale, humid air through natural vents and gaps. It is the most popular condensation solution in the UK, installed in over a million properties.
Condensation and mould form because moist, humid air from cooking, showering, and breathing has nowhere to escape. PIV solves this by gently introducing dry, filtered air. This reduces absolute humidity levels below the dew point (the threshold where water collects on cold windows and walls). Without persistent dampness, existing mould dries out, and new mould cannot grow.
Our standard professional installation packages range from £749 to £990:
Prices include parts, electrical wiring to your consumer board, testing, setup, and up to a 7-year manufacturer warranty. There are no hidden charges.
PIV units are incredibly energy-efficient. The main fan motor uses between 1.5W and 15W of electricity depending on the speed setting. Running 24/7, this equates to roughly £10 to £15 per year. If you install a heated model, the heater only activates briefly on freezing days to temper the incoming air, resulting in a minimal seasonal electricity increase.
A typical PIV installation takes between 2 and 3 hours. Our local Northern Ireland engineers carry out all electrical and structural work in a single visit, leaving your home clean and tidy. You can remain at home throughout the process.
Standard loft-ventilation systems require an accessible, ventilated loft space. However, if you live in an apartment, flat, or home with a flat roof, we can install the Nuaire Flatmaster PIV. This compact, wall-mounted unit can be fitted inside a kitchen cupboard or utility room and draws air directly through a small external wall duct.
No. When running at its standard continuous speed, PIV is virtually silent. You cannot hear the fan running from bedrooms or living areas. The air enters via a ceiling diffuser and circulates slowly, meaning there are no drafts. If you select a model with a tempering heater, the air is warmed as it enters, ensuring complete thermal comfort in winter.
The high-capacity G4 filters inside Nuaire units only need to be replaced every 4 to 5 years. The unit includes a visual filter-replacement indicator light that activates when it's time to change them. Replacement filters cost around £40 and are very easy to swap out.
Yes. PIV meets the standards set out in Building Regulations Part F (NI) for mechanical ventilation. It is a highly recommended ventilation strategy for landlords, HMO compliance, and properties undergoing major renovations.
